read moreOn 14 June 2024, The School of Law and Criminology and Research Centre in International Justice, NUI Maynooth, together with colleagues from the Department of Social Studies , NUI Maynooth and the Social Sciences Institute at the NUI Maynooth, convened a one-day conference on Human Trafficking & Modern Slavery, 14 June 2024.

Five APT members attended (L to R above: Brian O’ Toole, Sile McGowan, HFB, Rowena Galvin, SJC, Ita Noonan, IJS, and Liz Murphy, RSM, all of whom agreed that this was a very hopeful day. Many times we attend meetings and can often come away feeling despondent, anxious and even helpless but this meeting was anything but!
The day moved quickly enough with a lot of speakers mostly from Ireland, but enough too from the UK to offer comparison and context. At this gathering there were academics, students, a representative of the Department of Justice, the Gardai (X3), the HSE, Migrants Rights Centre, IHREC and the Irish Rapporteur on Human Trafficking Dr. Nusha Yonkova.
