TIP Report Launched 15 June 2023.

The Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report is the U.S. Government’s principal diplomatic tool to engage foreign governments on human trafficking. It is also the world’s most comprehensive resource of governmental anti-trafficking efforts and reflects the U.S. Government’s commitment to global leadership on this key human rights and law enforcement issue.

The US Congress mandated publication of the annual TIP Report in the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000. That law created a framework, known fondly as the 3 Ps: Prosecution, Protection, and Prevention. Over the years, policymakers have focused most extensively on prosecution.

Last year’s TIP Report data indicated that, in 2021, there were only 10,572 criminal prosecutions for all forms of human trafficking in the entire world. Of those, just 1,379 were for forced labour. This year’s data for 2022 show some improvement, but there are still just 15,159 total prosecutions, 2,670 of those for forced labour.

A lot of work remains to be done in Ireland, as we remain on Tier 2. Recommendations tally with observations made in the GRETA Report on Ireland for the same period. The key to progressing a pathway forward is through partnerships. It is time for application of the collective experiences & wisdom of all the NGOs, Civil Society & government agencies so as to maximise our capacities to combat this crime against humanity.

Ms. Evon Benson-idahosa, one of this year’s 8 TIP Heroes awardees, inspired us when she said ‘’And finally, on a micro level, we must each commit to doing the small daily actions that exemplify love – offering a cup of water to the thirsty, taking only that which you need, abandoning intellectual dishonesty that denies our own complicity in injustice, choosing kindness over indifference & the collective good over individual advancement,

That is how we reconcile the world. It is how we choose a world that extols the values that we contend guard our collective conscience and, as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, ‘’embody an audacious faith in the future of mankind.’’
